His sights on a barking prairie dog, the red-tailed hawk dives past a fleet family of pronghorns running through yucca and prickly pear while bluebirds swoop by. In the Lakota calendar, Moon of Black Chokecherries is roughly August to early September, when the wild chokecherries are ready to pick.

I have been an artist since I was knee high to a short-horned locust. My dad, Willoughby Senior (FAA) was a professional artist and writer and I have stepped in his shoes since I was born, though he drew horses better than I did when I was a kid. My family lived in a hand-hewn log cabin we built ourselves in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had no water or electricity. I love my life with my husband and family in Wyoming among the horses, gophers, deer, antelope, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and the wild landscape. My work is driven by the land, animals, wild plants and birds I have come to know so well. Hummingbirds still try to get nectar from my upturned fingers.
