Painting - Oil On Canvas
Description
I am a self-taught artist and this is one of my very early paintings (see My Miro, which was my very first painting). I learned by copying paintings and this was my first attempt at painting the human figure!
This remarkable oil painting would make a major addition to a collection and make a great gift!
I used a print in an art book as my reference. Masaccio (1401) was among the first to paint people who looked real as opposed to the static figures seen earlier in religious paintings; he painted before Michelangelo and was certainly a great influence on him and others to follow. He has been called "the true father of the renaissance artists.
"The original fresco is in the church of Santa Maria del Carmine just outside Florence, Italy. Many years after painting this I went on a quest to see the original. The painting had undergone a restoration and the fig leafs had been removed! I had quite a laugh.

That is hilarious that your nice oil painting copy has the fig leaves and the original painting no longer does since it had been added later. What a unique time capsule record of what was. Enjoyed the painting and the story. Funny.
