Description
NASA Infrared Facility. Open dome of the NASA Infrared Facility (at right) at Mauna Kea in Hawaii, USA. Its 3 metre diameter reflector tele- scope is visible, built originally to study the infrared radiation from the planets. At right is the dome of the Canada-France-Hawaii telescope. These telescopes are sited at 4200 metres on the dormant volcano Mauna Kea. The high altitude and stable, dry atmosphere make this site one of the world's best sites for infrared astronomical observations.
