Description
This is an image of a US Benchmark Triangulation Disk found on one of the lookout points in the Grand Canyon at along the South Rim (Hopi Point). For those who are interested in the details, the coordinates are N 36° 04.467 W 112° 09.303; 12S E 395993 N 3992823.
A Survey Marker (also called survey marks, survey monuments, survey benchmarks or geodetic marks), are all objects placed to mark key survey points on the Earth's surface. They are used in geodetic and land surveying. Informally, such marks are referred to as benchmarks, although strictly speaking the term "benchmark" is reserved for marks that indicate elevation. Horizontal position markers used for triangulation are also known as triangulation stations.
All images are taken with a Canon 5D III (full frame) and a Canon 7D II (crop frame) using a variety of Canon L-Series lenses, and Tamron and Sigma pro-line lenses; processed in RAW with ACR, PSC, Photomatix, and a variety of other imaging software.

Cool photo, Hany. And terrific documentation/description! l/f
Hany J replied:
Thank you so much Kay; glad you like this. This disk was (is) very small; it only measures like not even 2 inches by 2 inches and is embedded in the stonework on the ground; coming across it I was totally surprised to find it where I did. I think it made for a good close-up. Thanks for the Like and Favorite and for reading the documentation. I much appreciate it. Hany
