About The Poster: This poster was created by the Chemin de Fer du Nord (Railway of the North) in collaboration with the Syndicat d'Initiatives de Senlis. A "syndicat d'initiatives" is a local tourism office, and had the responsibility of promoting tourism to various locations. Les Chemin de Fer du Nord opened in 1845 and ran until 1937 when it was nationalised, becoming a part of the SNCF (Société Nationale des Chemins de fer français; "French National Railway Corporation"). The poster was designed by Charles Hallo (1884-1969), easily recognizable by his signature "ALO" in the lithographic plate. This poster advertises the destination of Senlis. The scene featured depicts the tomb of Jean Jacques Rousseau, which until 1794, actually contained human remains. Recently linen backed and in excellent condition, this poster would be a superb addition to any collection.
