Description
Pallas Athene is the goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, just warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill. She was the patron of Athens. This is my tribute to the brilliant sculptors who carved in intaglio, in miniature, in metal, the dies from which the Greek city state coins were struck for many centuries. Created in plasticine, taken through a plaster waste mold to produce a master (in the days before cold-pouring rubber), then a flexible mold - finally cast in epoxy. 3.5" (9cm) diam. Original coin struck in South Italy c 445-410 BC.
