Description
Although partridges are ground dwelling birds that do not nest in pear trees, its meaning as expressed in the popular Christmas carol, Twelve Days of Christmas, is about true love. The partridge is a bird that will sacrifice its life to save its cheepers, (cheepers are baby partridges.) And, why a pear tree? Fruit-bearing trees represent physical and spiritual nourishment and fertility. They have been classic themes in religion and culture dating back to the biblical reference of Adam and Eve and the "Tree of Life." While the symbolism associated with pear trees differs slightly from culture to culture, in some way, it invariably stands for life and longevity. One special gift of life is a partridge in a pear tree. Merry Christmas! This digital and mixed media image was created in Spadecaller’s Florida studio.
