The print is much darker in person. It looks like an underexposed photo and hard to make out any detail on the bottom half of the print. Paper quality is good. Fast shipping.
Artist's Description
A Williamette geared locomotive pushing a load of logs on a temporary trestle somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. The Williamette was based on the Shay design, but was built after the patents had expired on the Shay and thus incorporated many mechanical improvements. These engines were designed for difficult-to-navigate logging areas that required excellent traction and a tight turning radius. Photo reference for this was taken by me of the 3-truck engine on static display in Dunsmuir, CAI then placed it into a fictional setting. Very few of these locomotives survive today.
About Gary Symington
Gary was a full-time illustrator, graphic designer and art director for over 40 years, but his real passion was always landscape painting and drawing. His illustration clients have included L.L. Bean, Windows magazine and McDonalds, and he has shown with the Society of Illustrators in Los Angeles. Gary received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Syracuse University, and studied at Sir John Cass School of Art in London, England. A dedicated full-time fine artist since 2017, much of Gary's work has been in watercolor/pen & ink, and most recently in casein, a milk emulsion medium. This new work reflects his love of the flora and fauna of California, particularly the coast and forests, with attention to color, atmosphere and detail....

Thanks, Richard. The repro here is a little flat-I'll have to fix that. The geared locos are really fascinating. Glad you like it!
