Description
Rick Neck - Original Photogrpahy by Karol Livote
Rick-Neck Pheasant - was introduced from China in the late 1800's. This bird is very common throughout the United States. Like many game birds, their numbers vary greatly , making them common some years and scarce in others. This winter there have been three males that visit often. This particular fella is always around. The name "Ring-Neck" comes fromt he thin white ring around the male's neck. The male is the brighter and more flamboyant one. The female is smaller and all brown. The males have a cackling call to attract the females. The ring-neck will feed on insects, seeds and fruit. They are truly beautiful.
Taken in Monroe, Connecticut.
