I noted that the color came out differently on this size of bag, it is distinctly more purple. I happen to love that color also--the larger size has perfect color, exactly like the photo. I love both of my bags.
To paint this 8-foot by 16-foot mural for the Platte Valley Arts Council in Saratoga, Wyoming, took Dawn two years She says, "That's what happens when you hire a miniaturist to paint a mural!" Called "Life Along the Platte," the mural depicts the North Platte River in all its seasons flowing through the varied and rugged landscapes of the Saratoga-Encampment Valley. Among traditional western quilt designs, historical vignettes based on old photographs depict events of times past among Native Americans, pioneers, homesteaders and their families, hunters, soldiers, ranchers, miners, tie hacks and loggers, rodeo cowboys, and many more. Central to the mural are the vignettes of wild animals, wild flowers, and birds engaged in the actions Dawn has witnessed while growing up and living in her family's log cabin in the Cedar Breaks, foothills of the Snowy Range. I have been an artist since I was knee high to a short-horned locust. My dad, Willoughby Senior (FAA) was a professional artist and writer and I have stepped in his shoes since I was born, though he drew horses better than I did when I was a kid. My family lived in a hand-hewn log cabin we built ourselves in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had no water or electricity. I love my life with my husband and family in Wyoming among the horses, gophers, deer, antelope, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and the wild landscape. My work is driven by the land, animals, wild plants and birds I have come to know so well. Hummingbirds still try to get nectar from my upturned fingers. My artwork consists of all these things and more...
