Description
I discovered this view of the Fortress of Salzburg with the old city below while out for a walk one morning along the Salzach River.
The fortress was built in the 11th century to protect the prince bishops from attack, although it never faced a real siege. The prince bishops, however, became very wealthy from levies on all ships carrying salt past Salzburg from the mines upriver.

Great shot of the Fortress and city. Brings back memories of my visit to Salzburg many moons ago
