Description
Scaphoid fracture of the wrist, illustration. The scaphoid bone is one of the eight carpal bones of the wrist. The scaphoid is shown in an expanded view in a fractured state at centre right. It is shown in an unfractured state in the wrist at left. It is the bone at centre, on the thumb side of the wrist. Scaphoid fractures are the most common wrist fracture. With the correct treatment, the fractured bone should heal. Treatment can involve inserting a pin to hold the fractured bone together as it heals.
