This is an oil painting of a passenger train on Seven Mile Bridge in the Florida Keys by American artist Christopher Jenkins. The great hurricane in 1935 destroyed the Key West extension, so this scene can be recreated only with an artist's brush. I chose a point of view that would be impossible to obtain in life, slightly above and off the the bridge...so that I could fully show the train, and the bridge.

I am an American artist who specializes in transportation subjects. I am retired after a 34 year career in the freight railroad industry, so I am familiar with my favorite subject matter. My objective is to capture the essence of a scene or a machine, but without distracting detail. In many of the paintings, I have worked to create a sense of motion. The paintings are created using traditional drawing and painting techniques, and a variety of high quality oil paints, brushes and other tools, including the painting knife. My process is as follows: I begin by making several pencil sketches from different angles and distances.
