The most famous Sphinx is the Great Sphinx of Giza and was the guardian of the tombs of the Giza pyramids. It is one of the largest and oldest statues in the world and it is believed to have been carved about 2500 BC. The head is meant to be the likeness of the Pharaoh Khafra.
The 3 Pyramids of Giza were built for the Pharaohs Khufu, which is the tallest around 400 feet high and is also know as Cheops, Khafre, sits behind in the background, and Menkaure in the front.
Although associated with Egypt, the nation of Sudan, to the south of Egypt, has the most numerous pyramids, numbering over 220.
