Description
The blue river Hvita in Iceland.
Hraunfossar waterfalls are in fact numerous small waterfalls stretching over an area that is about 900 metres wide out of the Hallmundarhraun, a lava field which flowed from an eruption of one of the volcanoes lying under the glacier Langjokull. The waterfalls pour into the Hvita river from ledges of less porous rock in the lava. A more picturesque phenomenon is hard to find. Hraunfossar have been protected since 1987.
There is a viewpoint at the car park offering an amazing view over the Lava Falls and Hvita River.
