The picture was painted according to the description of the resurrected Jesus as described by saint sister Faustina Kowalska. The vision took place on the 22nd February 22, 1931 in the convent. The day, she was in her cell, she saw the apparition – Jesus in a white robe. His right hand was raised for blessing and his left hand was pointing at his chest, from where two large rays of light emanated. Jesus turned to Faustina with the request to paint a picture of him with the inscription “Jesus, I trust in You”. Jesus expressed a wish for this painting to be worshiped first in their domestic chapel, and later all around the world.
The artist - author of the picture - Terezia Sedlakova, shaped the figure of Christ using the Shroud of Turin. Her motivation to create and show this image were the words of Jesus to Sister Faustina.
