Description
Gravid Timber Rattlesnake, Randolph County, NC. Gravid means babies later in the summer. This female timber rattlesnake emerged from hibernation in early May and found a fallen tree in my yard as a place of protection and a place for an opportunity of a first meal after emerging. I photographed and observed her for five days that may before she moved on. I have timber rattlesnakes on and around my home property every year and it is such an honor to live with such docile and misunderstood snakes. Ignorance like many hatreds and fears in humans has to be overcome so these snakes and humans can survive.
