Description
If you get around to the southwestern part of Switzerland, most of what you hear will be about Zermatt this and Matterhorn that - gorgeous no doubt. But the canton of Valais has so much more to offer in regards to really wild and empty spaces. This is the left fork of the upper Val d'Herens with the rapidly receding Ferpècle Glacier, just about 12 miles (as the crow flies) from that crowded and expensive idyll. We got here at the tail end of a long climb over the Obergabelhorn and the Dent Blanche peaks. Worth it.
