Description
Fog in a valley. Fog forms when a body of warm and moist air contacts cold air. As cold air can carry less water vapour than warm air, the vapour condenses to water droplets. Valley fog is a type of advection fog, which occurs when warm, moist air moves into a cold environment, or cold air moves into a warm environment. Cold air drains into the valleys, condensing the water vapour within them. Fog on roads seriously reduces visibility, and can make driving conditions hazardous. Photographed near Fairbanks, Alaska, USA.
