The countryside of Ireland is dotted with thousands of enigmatic and mysterious man made stone structures and ruins -many reflect sun worship. Dolmens or Cromlechs were built between 6000 & 4000 years ago. This painting features Haroldstown Dolmen in the centre illuminated by the rising sun.
Just beneath it is a depiction of the west facing base of a High Stone Cross in Castledermot Co. Kildare Ireland with details of figures herding domestic animals & poultry exquisitely carved in granite stone . The tradition of erecting monumental high stone crosses began by the 8th century, they are said to have probably followed earlier versions in wood.. The painting is completed with swirls in the foreground similar to the prehistoric stone carvings in Newgrange which are regarded as some of the finest achievements of European...
