Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

The Yellow-Crowned Night-Heron (Nyctanassa violacea) is one of the two species of Night-Herons, the other being the Black-Crowned Night-Heron. Both species are usually nocturnal, hunting at night and roosting during the day. The Yellow-Crowned Night-Heron eats mostly crab, and the Black-Crowned eats mostly fish. The Yellow-Crowned are with longer necks and stouter bills than the Black-Crowned Night-Herons. Their length is about 24 inches, and their weight is about 1.5 pounds. They typically nest in bushes and trees.
This second-year Yellow-Crowned Night-Heron foraging and walking on the ground was photographed at Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge, in Imperial Beach, California, on 6-20-2017. I used a Nikon D810 camera body and a Nikon 500mm f/4 vr2 lens to capture this image.
