Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

The Yellow-Crowned Night-Heron (Nyctanassa violacea) is one of the two species of Night-Herons, the other being the Black-Crowned Night-Heron. Both species are usually nocturnal, hunting at night and roosting during the day. The Yellow-Crowned Night-Heron eats mostly crab, and the Black-Crowned eats mostly fish. The Yellow-Crowned are with longer necks and stouter bill than the Black-Crowned. Their length is about 24 inches, and their weight is about 1.5 pounds. There were about a dozen Yellow-Crowned Night-Heron residing in the marshes at Milford Point in Connecticut during the spring and summer of 2015.
This Yellow-Crowned Night-Heron in flight was photographed at the Milford Point marsh on 6-29-2015. I used a Nikon D810 camera body and a Nikon 300mm f/2.8 VR2 lens to capture this image. Settings: 1/1600 sec, f/5.6, ISO 640.
I am honored that my photograph was featured in the Fine Art America groups:

My passion for birding and nature has taken me outdoors almost daily whether home in the USA, or on trips in East Africa, Israel, the Caribbean, and Brazil. I've been fortunate enough to have seen and photographed over 1000 species of birds, and I get a lot of satisfaction when I'm able to capture a beautiful and interesting shot and share it with others. I've had the honor of my bird photos recognized in prestigious competitions including "The Top One Hundred" of the Audubon Photo Contest, the "Honored Top 40" of the Nature's Best Backyards Photography Contest, and included in the "Nature's Witness" exhibition of 47 nature photographs (selected from 22,000 entries to the National Wildlife...
