GOLER GULCH CALIFORNIA

In the year 1867 a German prospector by the name of Goler found gold nuggets sparkling in a spring at the �Narrows�, about a mile and a half up the canyon from the scene of the painting. Leaving his gun as a marker on a sandy hill and drawing a map, he left for Los Angeles. He found a partner with money to stake his venture. After two unsuccessful trips, the third brought them to Red Rock Canyon where they did find gold. Goler disappeared after mining the area for about 3 years. Finley Buhn, who lived in Goler Heights until his death, used to tell many a fascinating yarn of the old days. Finley claimed that his uncle, who worked for Remi Nadeau�s freighting outfit (see comments on Cerro Gordo, CA painting), saw Goler several times in the 1870s as he drove along the El Paseo Mountains near Goler Canyon.
