In the time before Hurricane Katrina, �Little Woods� was a favorite destination for a family vacation or a quick weekend getaway. In New Orleans East out on Haynes Blvd. bordering the southern shore of Lake Ponchartrain, were numerous �camps�. Small cabins built on piers out over the water, these camps were connected to shore on the lakeside of the levee by long docks. Most had just a few rooms, usually one or two bedrooms with bunk-beds, a simple bathroom and one large family space across the back with a rudimentary kitchen to one side and some second-hand furniture on the other. Nobody ever spent much on the d�cor of the place as the cabins were often prone to vandalism when not occupied.
It didn�t really matter as most people, brought the essentials with them each time.

Katie Spicuzza has a passion for all things creative.
