My art career spands over 40 years. I developed an interest in art at a very early age. I won my first contest in Kindergarden in New Jersey.Art scholarships included Art Institute of Chicago and Xavier University From the time I was 5 up until now I have worked with any medium of art that was affordable. I have done work in New Orleans, South Carolina and Georgia. My passion is portraits with an emphasis on children.
As an artist, I develop artwork that speak to me and to others about the beauty that exists in everything around us. Part of my process is to research as much as I can about the specific subject I am about to recreate with special and personal attention to the lowcountry, and Gullah/Geechie culture that gracefully exists along the coast of South Carolina and Georgia. Most times I do no research at all, because a work of art usually finds me, and whispers to my spirit. I try with every piece of work to breath life into it so that one is able to feel the work. The challenge, as with any recreated moment, is not to caricature a moment, but instead capture it in all it's grace and glory. I want my artwork to speak to everyone in such a way that it stimulates the senses. One is able to feel the emotions, smell the smells, hear the sounds.
Speak to it, and it will speak back.
