Julianna Ziegler

I don't remember a time in my life before I was drawing. My love for nature and creativity has always combined to encourage me to enhance my skills in order to feed my curiosity. I love to explore new mediums and styles, and am continuously inspired by the works of fellow artists, both past and current. I enjoy working in pencil, charcoal, pastel, oil, acrylic, scratch board, watercolor and collage, as well as glass etching and some sculpture. I have earned awards from Honorable Mention to Best of Show for painting, drawing, and sculpture. I particularly enjoy figurative work and works representing aspects of nature. Much of it is solely, instinctively from my imagination and memory. My own favorites are the ones that aren't strictly planned, but instead evolve as I work.
After growing up in Ohio, I came to Hawaii in 2004 after two previous visits in search of inspiration and adventure. Both of these I continue to find in daily experiences. Besides painting and drawing, I enjoy scuba diving, hiking, cliff-jumping, traveling and exploring the island. I enjoy attending workshops from time to time at the Volcano Art Center under the instruction of well-known artists like Patrick Ching (oils), Pearl Maxner (watercolors), and Vicki Penny Rohner (pastels). I also enjoy taking art and science courses at UHH and HCC. Learning new techniques and combining them with experience is an incredible way to encourage the restless, curious inner child.
My artwork has been displayed in shows in Hawaii at the East Hawaii Cultural Center, The Wailoa Center, Kaikodo, the University of Hawaii at Hilo, and Pictures Plus, as well as in Ohio at the Butler Art Institute. It is collected throughout the United States and Japan. My artwork is currently for sale at One Gallery in Hilo, Hawaii, and Puka Gallery in Honomu, Hawaii.
