Laura Hering studied fine art at the Academy of Cincinnati. In 1995 she began an apprenticeship under Susan Noble in Cincinnati, Oh in the decorative arts. By 2004 Laura was considered to be a master gilder by those in her trade. In 2002 Laura began to merge her fine art background with her decorative career.

She creates a series of fine art boxes that suspend from the wall like a canvas. She creates landscape images inspired by the places she travels and has lived such as Kentucky horse farm country, Yosemite National Park and the Yosemite foothills, Mt. Lassen National Park, Mt. Diablo and its foothills in the east bay of San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, The Redwood State Park, Oregon Coast, Mt. Tamalpias, the Marin Headlands, Australia as well as many others.

In 2010 to 2011 she was commissioned to create a sculpture for Reuben & Junius LLP in San Francisco, CA. This sculpture commission would be the beginning of a creative idea that has Laura writing for grants to fund. The model she created for the commission has been accepted in two shows since its creation.

Laura Hering also creates works of art that are abstract and hark back to her inspiration from the abstract impressionists such as Franz Kline, Helen Frankenthaller, Jackson Pollock, David Smith, and Robert Motherwell. Many pieces of this collection have been sold in numerous galleries across the USA and Australia.

Laura also creates museum quality Japanese Style folding screens using the same techniques and materials at the Japanese used in the 1700 till present. She creates wall art, gilded canvas using these same techniques from centuries ago in a uniquely different format. Paint, glazes, layers of gesso raised from the surface, gilded, etched, distressed, and glazed again. These are very labor intensive and highly crafted works to be appreciated for their context through history.

Laura also creates graphic style work. Logos for unique companies that want an artist's touch over a graphic designers feel. She recently designed the animal pictures for an alphabet used in a preschool curriculum. As well as a line of nude line drawings for a spa in Benicia, CA.

She is available for consultations for commission in all her facets of artwork and of course there are wonderful pieces of inventory sold here on Fine Art America.
