it may be swezey but it's not sleazy ...

Nope, not sleazy... good idea

Val Arie

No it isn't! Do it nice and introduce yourself and give a little explanation about what you do etc.

utter filth, but do it anyways, be modern, erm, so what was the question again?

Go for it Roger. They're vulture enthusiasts. Your work will be right at home, and might just sell. You're the vulturest person I know.

Roger Swezey

My concern is that everything posted on this site is for sharing...and here I come selling

selling, schmelling, post it, join......then, do your duty and share somebody's that you like.......that's the deal.......

easy!

If you promote your work as a labor of vulture love, I can't see anyone objection. They may even embrace vulture décor items..

I have to confess, I joined the society back in 2010, thinking I would make a killing

I posted this at the time, feeling sleazy right after seeing what the site is all about

Art Prints

And feeling sleazy ever since.

By the way, nothing came from that initial posting.

Edit: In those days I didn't know about URL posting

Roger share what you do, that is what is exciting, what you do. And you are sharing with people that like vultures. Seem relevant to me. Just leave out words like for sale, people can figure that part out.

Roger, go with your gut and 80+ years of experience. You will always feel sleazy about this sort of thing.

Many years ago I discounted an image I had on FAA through their discount program. I never discount, but this was short-term, easy to set up and what the heck. To me it was like crossing a line I swore I'd never cross. By the time the discount expired (no sales) I felt like a total sleaze-ball. I don't care if I starve, I'll never do anything like that again.

Yes, I realize other people love social media and love discounting! To me, it's not a matter of "sharing." I love sharing, but I'm not going to swim around in a cesspool to do it.

If selling on social media feels sleazy, it is -- for you.

Who says vultures are sleazy?
They have a very important job!
If it weren't for vultures there would be a lot more dead stinking carcasses lying around.

They are natures cleanup crew.

Have you thanked a vulture lately?

Edit: if you found a group of people that are vulture enthusiasts then target marketing is not sleazy either, it's smart...

David Bridburg

Roger,

Why are you using the word 'sleazy''?

Ah you mean as a sales pitch in a FB group.

What does the admin say?

I like vultures, too; and, like Shelli, defend them for their importance whenever I get the chance. I only have two vultures for sale - as prints of course, but one of them has sold three times: as a cell phone case, a card, and a blanket. Since I almost never sell a given image more than once, that amounts to a rush on vultures for me :) I say, "Go for it, Roger!"

Dean Harte

I noticed that at least one other FAA member is part of the group. I would just send the admin a note explaining what you want to do and a link to your work. If they say it`s OK then go ahead. It`s a perfect opportunity to reach a specific niece market and as long as you don`t spam or sell traffic it wont be an issue I think. If I were a vulture lover I would gladly be introduced to your work.

David,David, David,

The only problem I have at this moment, is the fact that my broken arm is preventing me working downstairs, creating tangible work.

Therefore, I'm here pecking away on this keyboard, with my interest going to internet selling.

And as Tom suggested, I chose "sleazy" because it rhymed with "swezey"

And the reason I posted the initial image from my FAA artwork page (with it's price) is because I found that the image is too large for a simple download.

Edit:

David,

I see that you deleted your most recent posting.....Should I now delete most of the above?

David Bridburg

Roger,

Got you.

The OP image is obscured a bit.

I hope you are recovering well and feeling better.

Thank you all for your encouragement to GO FOR IT.

I now plan to reintroduce myself with an enlargement of my "Why Vulture" card
,And then a link to my FAA/ Pixels web site

https://roger-swezey.pixels.com/

As a side note: I just noticed that my web page still has my old address,Babylon, instead of Washingtonville as my account indicates

Edit:

I corrected the address, and updated the bio...Both were saved

Yet, only the new address is displayed....The bio still has the old info.

Roger - that's what's known as marketing. I think it's brilliant. Good luck!

No Roger!!! I love Vultures! Many people do, and yours are fantastic.

I think your art is unique. You're very smart to chose subject which many artists don't focus on. In addition, most of your mixed-media in your artworks are also not possible to buy. You have to find them by yourself in the nature during your creative process. If I am not mistaken your sculptures are "objets trouvés" that cannot be produced en mass. Therefore, you have don't have much competition on the sellers' market.

Good luck with your marketing strategy. Cheer to your success so far.

Not sleazy Roger! Swezey!

As 1/16 vulture I am offended and outraged.

Floyd Snyder

It will only be sleazy if the owner of that group says it is.

Just contact them and tell them what you have and what you want to do.

No one else can tell you what is or is not appropriate for someone else's Facebook group.

Everyone on FAA can tell you to for it, but if the owner of that groups does no want it, then that is the only answer that counts.

My suggestion would be to make sure you take a low profile on the for sale angle. Put that protion in the desctiption so they can only see the link if they click on the image. Do not put a blanat ad or call to action to buy something in the post.

But the best advice may be to contact the group owner and ask permission and work out what ever you can with them.

Best of luck to you as always!

your work is awesome, sure some people may be looking for this kind of art, since they all love vultures.

I see them all the time, the vultures. At first I thought they are eagles, then up closer I saw the heads. Once I saw like fifty flying around, maybe they had a wedding party? I don't know.

I had to dredge up this thread to share this link with Roger.

cool vulture art

Roger,
Your art is awesome! The vulture was considered a symbol of cleansing, renewal, and transformation by the Mayans and is a wonderful bird of much significance to the earth! Share your passion and what is near and dear to your heart!!

Worth the dredge Shelli.

some of my most ineresting neighbours are vultures. Seriously, they have taken to nesting in the tops of nearby buildings. Love watching them

Mr. Swezey,

I am deeply offended by your capitalistic tendencies. I find it appalling that you would come to a site and try to hawk your vultures.

You vulture capitalists are all the same! No regard for those of us that provide the mussels, you only care about the shell games you can play with your sculptured derivatives.

;-)
