What Would Cause This?

This weekend I did a 30 minute star trail shot... For some reason the image is completely covered in red, green and blue speckles. I understand that can happen when the sensor overheats but I have done many 30 minute star trail exposures in the past with the same body/lens combo (Nikon D750 and Rokinon 14mm 2.8) that have come out completely speckle free.

Settings were 100 iso, 7.1 aperture, 30 minute exposure

Kind of a bummer that the shot is ruined because I don't have easy access to the spot I shot at to go try again.

Seems to be a common problem with long exposures. And I get it that sometimes it does not happen. But a look around the internet shows they are not hard to fix, so don't count it as ruined yet.

Thanks Bradford, I'm going to attempt to fix it tonight - I see a few methods that might make it easier than trying to clone out hundreds of specks. After processing it.

Interestingly, I saw someone say that that they had less specks shooting in cold weather which makes sense. I'm going to check but I think my previous star trail shots were all taken in the fall and winter which might explain why they came out clean and this one came out speckled.
