This is the most beautiful painting! I feel lucky and blessed that I came across it! My husband and I honeymooned in Mo’orea and we had taken many pictures in front of this church. To find that Greg Collins painted it was such a joy! We will treasure it forever!

I was super-pleased with my photo print purchase! Like many people, I’m sure, when making online purchases there’s always just a little voice of skepticism in the back of my mind. I knew I liked the image, but had to roll the dice that it would look good in person, the frame would be adequate, etc. I must say it exceeded even my hopeful expectations! First of all, the packing was stellar. The photo print did look great in person, and the framing was WAY better than I was expecting! It was ready to go with a sturdy hanging wire already in place. Unfortunately it was a gift, so I don’t have a photo of it on my wall! I did, however, open and inspect it before wrapping it and re-shipping (in the same stellar packing!). I would easily recommend FineArtAmerica and will happily shop with them again in the future…worry free!

Artist's Description
At 11,700 ft, the “locked gate” is essentially at the end of the dirt road as you head north up the White Mountains, past the ancient bristlecone pine forest.
This shot was taken approximately 1 1/2 miles before the gate. The sky was threatening, and the white you see are ice patches. Despite always being prepared and driving a 4x4 riding on appropriate tires, there is that nagging awareness of a having a flat in a bad place.
Beyond the gate the trail continues, leading to the Barcroft Research Center operated by the University of California, some 2 miles further at ~ 12,500 ft.
Geolocation: 37°34’59” N / 118°14’14” W
Elevation: 3800m (12,470’)
The station has been the site of much research in the physiological effects of high elevation, and was also used for a decade by Noble laureate, George Smoot, for research in cosmic background radiation.
The facilities at Barcroft include the Nello Pace Laboratory, which is the main station buildin...
About Joe Schofield
As a kid I was fascinated with photographs. Look, Life magazine. National Geographic. That well-captured interplay of light and shadow...the notion of people, places and moments - all suspended in time. My first "real" camera was a Minolta Srt101. I was seduced. As a teenager, I learned how to develop film while working at Wyle Laboratories in El Segundo, and I still recall the smell of the developer...my eyes adjusting to the red filter light...and the sheer magic and delight of watching images begin to emerge. Life, family and a career as a teacher and psychologist intervened, not to mention a few more film cameras. Eventually, there was digital. Hah! Liberation! Photography is the creative medium that allows me to share...
