Description
Vintage building whose 2009 facade is covered with a well-known jazz-themed mural. This busy street corner is in the North Beach neighborhood, Columbus Avenue and Grant, in San Francisco.
Less than half a block away one will find Vesuvio's (see yellow building identified as Italian Town). Across the street from that is the oldest known paperback bookstore, City Lights, in salmon pink. Murals such as this one, and the one at Vesuvio's, abound in this colorful, eclectic city. I'm told there are more than one thousand murals such as this.
From time to time, they get painted over and redone, so I can't guarantee that this mural has survived since 2009. I tried to capture and do justice to its artistry by angling the image to show it off at its best, avoiding a snapshot look. Hope you like it.
