The chukar partridge is an upland game bird in the pheasant family. Native to the Middle East and southern Asia, the chukar was brought as a game bird to North America, where it has thrived in some arid regions of the west. From late summer to early spring, they travel in coveys. Chukars are ground-dwelling birds that prefer walking or running. Easily outpacing a human, they traverse rocky slopes with ease hopping from rock to rock. When frightened they burst into the air with a piercing squeal. Spadecaller is an experienced traditional artist, who creates original hand-painted digital images and photo composite artworks. In the late fifties at eight years old, Spadecaller started formal training in traditional oil painting.Through considerable personal sacrifice, his mother nurtured his artistic talents and provided him with the tools to launch his creative journey. Spadecaller attended The School of Visual Arts in New York City (1970-71), and during the 70's up until the late 80's, he exhibited acrylic and oils in Montreal and New York.
