These lovely, tiny drops of beauty start blooming in early spring (for us, late March) and continue until the end of May or beginning of June. Their color can range from almost white to heavily striped with deep pink. They are low-growing and fill our yard with blossoms. There is also the Carolina Spring Beauty that has slightly different leaves but tends to grow in similar areas.

This picture was taken in Green Lane, Pennsylvania, USA, on May 18, 2013. I used the Canon T4i camera with the Tamron macro lens 90mm.
