About Alanna Hug-McAnnally
Thank you so much for visiting my site. It's been an unusual journey on my way to painting. Due to an illness when I was 40 - over 2 decades ago - I had to quit working. One day I went to a large mall and was happily surprised by an art show/competition. While looking at all the paintings (about 1,000 in all), I was drawn to one particular artist. It turned out she was the teacher to 1/2 of the artists there. Having told her I was degreed in opera and concert, she immediately told me: "If you are in one of the arts, you are in all of them." That turned out to be true, and it turned out I could paint. Since then, I have been in jurried competitions, came in second in my first and first in my second. One is now in a museum, a gift...

Jane - thank you. :D It was a spur of the moment thing where I had sand and glass around for other projects and decided to put them on a canvas. The feather came at the end of the painting. Now I want to do an Art Deco style of a lady in an evening gown with lots of bugle beads and small peacock feathers for a fan. One of these days! lol Jane - good to hear from you - and thank you again.

Alanna,I wouldn't know from the picture on screen that this is a kind of collage ! It is a most eye catching and pretty design and I just love the hat! I also really like the long format you used and I'm not surprised to read that you had a quick sale of the original! v/f

Carole - I have to admit this painting was a lot of fun. There are real feathers in her hat, the waves, coconuts, etc., are glass, there is artist's sand on the beach and rhinestones at the bottom of her dress. These things were laying around in containers and it was one of those days to have fun and play. So on they went with a hot glue gun. Lots of run. Thank you again Carol for your compliments. It means a lot to me.

Roger, thank you so very much. I had a lot of fun doing this - just messing around with hot waxing glass, feathers and jewels on it. Oh, and some artist's sand. Saw you site - WOW. We had a wonderful lab named Rufus. Still miss him.

I read your comment about having given so much away without ever recording it. I can relate! I like the naive quality of this. Up there with the best contemporary folk art.
